Bulldog Puppy Training - Never Surrender !

One of the oldest and elite purebred dogs in today's world is the bulldog. This breed has been icon of Great Britain for a very long time, hundreds of years in fact. These wonderful animals are stoic, brave and a touch bullheaded.

This breed is notorious for health problems and these start at birth with a high death rate. When you pick up your puppy for the first time he should be at least eight weeks old. He will probably have a nice calm friendly demeanor. Your first job is important. You need to have the pup checked by your veterinarian for common bulldog puppy health issues, such as problems with their ears or nose.

Bulldog puppy training will need to begin shortly after you bring your pup home. You will want to work on theirinteraction with people and other dogs first. Ensure they are 10 weeks old at least before training begins. Otherwise, you could create an aggressive dog.


Start training your bulldog with basic potty training when your pup is old enough. When they are young bulldogs can be particularly stubborn so it will be better if you are home often and utilize crate training while you are potty training. You may find that the stubborn nature of the bulldog makes them a bit tough to train, but once they are loyal to you they are a delight to train.

It is also a good idea to keep your dog off the couch and never let them sleep with you. You can use the crate quite a bit in the early months and increase the amount of time your pup can stay in it.

The obedience phase of your bulldog puppy training should begin around 3- 6 months of age and focus on everyday commands. These commands can include focus on you, sitting, stay, lay down, roll over, not pulling at a leash, coming when you call and waiting patiently inside.


One of the reasons bulldog puppy training is so important are safety concerns. They are little courageous explorers who will want to see all they can. Start teaching them young not to chase after vehicles and to stop at the edge of the sidewalk to ensure they do not bolt from you in public. Until you are 110%, sure they will not run from you and you can call them to return do not take a bulldog off the leash! Unlike other small breeds, the risks are much higher with a bulldog.
